The Indian sporting ecosystem has undergone a shift, with multiple disciplines adopting the franchise league model. The Shooting League of India (SLI) is the latest addition, aiming to reimagine the sport for a broadcast audience.

Unlike other sports, shooting requires precision and stillness, making it a challenging transition to a television product. The SLI will present shooting as a team-based contest, introducing narrative, rivalry, and continuity across matches.

The league will feature mixed team events across pistol, rifle, and shotgun, with six teams of 12 players each. Players will be drafted across four categories, ensuring a balanced mix within each franchise.

To enhance its appeal, the league will introduce spectator-friendly innovations, such as 'Distraction' and 'Brave the Elements,' which will test the focus of air rifle shooters and simulate crosswinds and rain for shotgun events.

The SLI has already seen multiple scheduling shifts, but the NRAI maintains that the timing is deliberate, aiming to connect India's shooting excellence to a wider audience.

The central question remains: can a sport built on silence translate into something that resonates with a mass audience? The answer lies in presentation and structure, with the NRAI working on technical innovations and immersive camera angles to make the viewing experience more engaging.
