New Delhi, India has been left red-faced after being designated as a country with an 'extremely high' risk of doping by the Athletics Integrity Unit. The national federation has vowed to work with the National Anti-Doping Agency and the Sports Ministry to quickly come out of the category of worst doping offenders.
India was placed in the highest-risk category for doping by the Athletics Integrity Unit after recording the highest number of positive cases over the past two years.
The Athletics Federation of India acknowledged the AIU's decision and said it will work towards moving out of Category A.
Under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, Category 'A' Member Federations, representing the highest risk, are subject to more stringent requirements, including minimum testing of their national team athletes.
India has ranked in the top two for the most Anti-Doping Rule Violations in athletics between 2022 and 2025.
The AFI said it has consistently maintained that doping undermines the growth of athletics in India and has actively collaborated with anti-doping bodies to strengthen education, enhance testing and support intelligence-led investigation.
