Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn announced on Monday that quarterback Jayden Daniels will be benched for the remainder of the season, starting with Saturday's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. The decision is a result of a combination of medical concerns and team strategy. Daniels has been dealing with injuries throughout the season, including a sprained left knee, a hurt right hamstring, and a dislocated left elbow that he suffered during a game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Commanders have already been ruled out of playoff contention, and Daniels has only appeared in seven games this season. Despite being a standout player last season, completing 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, Daniels' performance this season has been hindered by injuries. He owns a completion rate of 60.6% with 1,262 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions, and his passer rating has dropped to 88.1. Quinn stated that the decision allows Daniels to focus on practice and recovery, and that there are still opportunities for him to learn and grow despite not being in game situations. The Commanders will now look to their other quarterbacks to lead the team in the final games of the season.
