Austria's Vincent Kriechmayr secured a thrilling World Cup super-G victory at Beaver Creek on Friday, amidst unpredictable weather conditions. The 34-year-old skier finished with a time of 1:06.77, edging out Norway's Fredrik Moeller by 56-hundredths of a second. Raphael Haaser of Austria claimed the third spot, 1.03 seconds behind Kriechmayr. In a day marked by multiple weather interruptions, including fog and heavy snowfall, the race was eventually called off after 31 racers had started. This was enough for Kriechmayr's win to be officially declared, although only 25 skiers managed to complete the course. Switzerland's Franjo von Allmen, the downhill world champion, suffered a heavy crash during the race, but fortunately, he was able to ski to the finish area under his own power. World Cup leader Marco Odermatt of Switzerland finished fifth, despite being in contention for the win. Kriechmayr's victory marked his 19th World Cup win, with 10 of those coming in the super-G discipline. He expressed his satisfaction with his skiing but acknowledged that the conditions were not fair for all racers. The overall World Cup standings remain unchanged, with Odermatt topping the leaderboard with 345 points, followed by Kriechmayr with 227 points and Haaser with 178 points. The next event is scheduled for Sunday, a giant slalom competition.
