Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez silenced his critics with a record-breaking performance in the Africa Cup of Nations Group E match against Sudan. The 34-year-old forward scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Sudan, moving him to the top of Algeria's all-time scorer list at the Cup of Nations with eight goals. Mahrez, who currently plays for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, brushed off suggestions that his performance was a response to the criticism he has faced. Instead, he emphasized the importance of focusing on the game and executing the team's plan. "We didn't play to answer criticism, we played to win," Mahrez said. "We had a clear plan to play without overthinking and win this match, and the rest of our group matches, to make the path easier.
