In a thrilling upset, Northern Colorado took down Colorado 86-81 on Sunday. Quinn Denker led the charge with a career-high 33 points, shooting 12-for-18 from the field, while grabbing eight rebounds and distributing eight assists. Ibu Yamazaki added 19 points for the Bears, while Brock Wisne chipped in with 13. On the other side, reserve true freshman Isaiah Johnson scored 25 points, including 19 in the first half, but the Buffs ultimately fell short. Sebastian Rancik scored 18 points, Bangot Dak had 16, and Barrington Hargress added 14. The game seesawed back and forth, with neither team leading by more than four points. However, Denker's clutch shooting proved to be the difference-maker. He made a pair of foul shots with 23 seconds left to give Northern Colorado an 84-81 lead, and sealed the win with two more foul shots with nine seconds remaining. The win snapped Northern Colorado's 13-game losing streak against Colorado, dating back to 1918. The Buffs, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 against state rivals, having lost to Colorado State earlier in the season. With the win, the Bears move on to Big Sky Conference action on New Year's Day, while the Buffs begin Big 12 Conference play on Saturday at Arizona State.
