The controversy surrounding Vinesh Phogat and the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) continues to escalate. Despite being barred from competing until June 26, Vinesh attended the National Open Ranking Tournament in Gonda, where she met WFI President Sanjay Singh.

Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik has extended her support to Vinesh, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure the grappler can participate in trials and bring medals for the country.

Malik expressed her concerns, stating that the WFI's actions are an attempt to block Vinesh's comeback. She cited examples of other countries' sports federations making accommodations for female athletes, particularly those who become mothers.

Vinesh, who narrowly missed out on a medal at the Paris Games, has been vocal about her treatment by the WFI. She accused the federation of targeting her for speaking out against them and claimed that she is being called a 'terrorist'.

The matter remains unresolved, with Vinesh's response to the show-cause notice deemed unsatisfactory by the WFI. The grappler had argued that she had informed United World Wrestling of her intention to resume competition in June, but failed to address the disciplinary charges outlined in the notice.
