The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has stepped in to oversee the selection process of boxers for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, citing violations of the Sports Ministry's guidelines.

SAI officials have raised concerns about the transparency of the selection process, particularly regarding the COAS Cup, a domestic tournament held in Pune, which was not mentioned in the BFI's selection policy.

The assessment of boxers is set to begin at the national camp in Patiala, but COAS Cup finalists are unlikely to be cleared for participation.

SAI has also raised concerns about the selection of Indian coaches in the BFI panel, stating that the empanelment of coaches is pending and that the selection process is in violation of the policy issued by the Ministry last year.

The government policy lays down the criteria for a selection committee, which includes a federation president, a Sportsperson of Outstanding Merit, a former international player, and members of the executive committee.

The assessment will be conducted in two phases, with strength and conditioning tests on May 6 and 7, and sparring from May 11 to 15, in a knockout format.
