The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has officially announced that the inaugural Shooting League of India (SLI) will take place from February 16 to 26, 2024. This decision comes after aligning the league's dates with the International Shooting Sport Federation's (ISSF) 2026 calendar to prevent scheduling conflicts with major international competitions. Initially, the league was set to debut in early 2026, but it has now been brought forward to next year. The SLI is a franchise-based league featuring top Indian and international shooters competing in a mixed-team format across various disciplines, including pistol, rifle, and shotgun. According to NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, the league aims to 'maximise participation' by aligning with the global calendar. The competition will include mixed-team events in different categories, such as pistol (10m, 25m), rifle (10m, 50m 3P), and shotgun (trap and skeet). Franchise-based teams will be divided into two pools for the league stage, followed by knockout rounds. Players will be drafted across four tiers, ensuring a mix of international stars, top Indian shooters, and emerging talent. Former World Champion Ronjan Sodhi believes that the SLI's format will translate technical excellence into a 'must-watch sport' by introducing tighter formats, mixed-team dynamics, and a premium broadcast.
