17-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus edged out a second Diamond League 800m win in Oslo, narrowly beating Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Meanwhile, Letsile Tebogo stormed to victory in the 200m, leaving Australian sensation Gout Gout in sixth place.
Lutkenhaus overtook Wanyonyi in the final metres, forcing him to dive across the line to secure the win. He won with a new personal best time of 1:42.08, the world's best performance of the year.
Lutkenhaus expressed his excitement at beating the Olympic champion, saying 'It was a very tough race and I had to dive for the line to be sure of the win.' He also praised Tebogo, saying 'To beat the Olympic champion is awesome and it means a lot.'
Gout Gout made his Diamond League debut, finishing sixth in the 200m in 20.60 seconds. He was impressed by the experience, saying 'This was my very first Diamond League and I thank God for this wonderful opportunity.'
Olympic champion Tebogo offered words of advice to Gout, saying 'He should not get comfortable racing with the seniors. He still has a long way to go.'
