Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, 80, remains in a critical condition at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital. Her personal physician, Dr AZM Zahid, described her situation as 'extremely critical' during a late-night briefing.
Zia has been undergoing treatment since November 23 for multiple health complications. On December 11, she was put on a ventilator to rest her lungs and vital organs. Despite ongoing care from both local and foreign physicians, including her daughter-in-law Dr Zubaida Rahman, her condition has shown no significant improvement.
Her son, Tarique Rahman, and the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), spent over two hours at the hospital before leaving. The BNP has previously expressed a preference for Zia to receive advanced medical treatment abroad, but her current condition makes air travel impossible. As a result, her treatment continues in the country, with doctors urging the nation to pray for her recovery.
