A GoFundMe campaign set up to support Renee Good's family has raised over $1.5 million, exceeding the initial goal of $50,000. The campaign was closed on Friday, with funds to be placed in a trust for the family. Renee, a 37-year-old US citizen, was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer during a traffic stop in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The outpouring of community support has raised concerns about immigration enforcement practices and has prompted protests and investigations. The GoFundMe page was set up by Mattie Weiss and Becka Tilsen, with an anonymous donor contributing the entire amount of $50,000. Renee's wife, Becca, expressed gratitude to the community for their kindness and support. Becca spoke to MPR News, saying: 'This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute to Renee, as she was known for her kindness. We were raising our son to believe that everyone deserves compassion and kindness, no matter where they come from.' The FBI has launched an investigation into the shooting, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has committed to an independent state inquiry. As Becca continues to raise their 6-year-old son, she hopes to teach him that 'there are people building a better world for him,' and that 'we need to show them a better way'.
