A powerful tornado ripped through Mount Zion, Illinois, on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The twister touched down in the Blue Mound area at 3:05 p.m. and caused significant damage in the Long Creek area just minutes later. Eyewitnesses shared photos and videos on social media, showing roofs torn off homes, uprooted trees, and debris scattered across yards. Fortunately, officials reported no injuries as of Sunday night. The National Weather Service had issued a Tornado Warning for Mount Zion, Long Creek, and Blue Mound, and a Tornado Watch remained in effect for parts of Illinois until 8 p.m. CST. The affected areas include Central Illinois, East Central Illinois, and Southeast Illinois, with multiple counties and cities under the watch.
