The rivalry between Sam Altman and Dario Amodei is entering a new phase as both AI bosses plan public listings to outpace each other in the race to build superintelligent AI.

Anthropic, led by Amodei, has filed paperwork for an IPO, while OpenAI, owned by ChatGPT, announced its own plans a week later.

Anthropic is currently valued at $965 billion, while OpenAI is valued at $852 billion, with a successful IPO potentially pushing both into the trillion-dollar club.

Research firm Gartner estimates that global AI spending will exceed $2.5 trillion this year, with the biggest share going toward infrastructure.

Most financial analysts give Anthropic the edge on the stock market, citing its stronger foothold in the corporate market and forecasted revenue of $47 billion this year.

However, OpenAI dominates the consumer market through ChatGPT, which boasts over 900 million weekly users, but most of them use it for free.

The rivalry is also deeply personal, with Amodei leaving OpenAI in 2021 due to disagreements with Altman's direction, and Anthropic positioning itself as a cautious voice in the industry.

The race for Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, is far from over, with both companies chasing the same goal and whoever gets there first potentially having a significant advantage.
