Actor Aamir Khan recently spoke about the unique morning routine of the Lagaan cast during an interview at the Red Lorry Film Festival in Mumbai. The cast would begin each day by listening to the Gayatri Mantra, with Aamir insisting on it over English songs. He recalled how Akhilendra Mishra would play the chant on the bus ride to the set every day for six months.
Aamir stated that listening to the Gayatri Mantra helped them get into a meditative state of mind, which was essential for their work. He also spoke about the love and respect the film received, saying that watching the last ten minutes still makes him emotional.
Lagaan tells the story of a villager who assembles a team to defeat the Britishers in a cricket match to avoid paying triple tax. The film received widespread acclaim and commercial success upon release, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Aamir's last lead role was in the 2025 film Sitaare Zameen Par, which he also produced, and he has several upcoming projects as a producer, including Ek Din and Lahore 1947.
