The Tamil Nadu assembly elections are set to take place on April 23, with several key players vying for power. Actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan's party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), has announced that it will not contest the polls and will instead support the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance. This marks a significant shift in the political landscape, with Kamal Haasan's decision being hailed as a 'selfless sacrifice' by the DMK.
However, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan has taken a dig at both Kamal Haasan and Vijay, who is contesting the polls with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party. Sathyan slammed Kamal for dropping out of the polls, stating that his decision was not a sacrifice but rather a sign of his incompetence. He also took a swipe at Vijay, saying that he hoped the actor would follow in the footsteps of other 'heroes on the silver screen' who have started political parties only to wind them up soon.
The DMK has welcomed Kamal Haasan's decision to support their alliance, with spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai hailing it as a historic and selfless sacrifice. Kamal Haasan has also expressed his commitment to supporting the DMK from outside, stating that he will win and that his party cadre follows his vision.
