A recent surge in fake social media accounts has left several Bollywood stars feeling disturbed and concerned for their fans' safety. Rakul Preet Singh, Shriya Saran, Sara Arjun, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Akasa are among the many celebrities who have spoken out against online imposters. According to the actors, these fake accounts are not only using their names and images but also contacting their contacts and even sending out fake messages and offers. Rakul Preet Singh shared a personal experience where a fake number was impersonating her, holding 'random conversations' with her contacts. She emphasized the need for action to be taken against these imposters, stating, 'While I understand fan love, chatting with people or reaching out to them using my name is just not right.' Shriya Saran shared a screenshot of a fake number that was using her phone number for two decades, sending 'not-so-good messages' to her contacts. Sara Arjun's father, actor Raj Arjun, also shared screenshots of a fake number being used by an imposter to contact people as Sara. Aditi Rao Hydari and Akasa have also warned their fans about fake accounts, with Aditi sharing a fake WhatsApp account that was contacting photographers with false photoshoot offers in her name. Akasa, a singer, even went as far as to share a screengrab of the fake number and wrote on Stories, 'Pretending to be me. Sadly, no one can be me. JK, block and report. Don't entertain.' The incident highlights the growing concern of online imposters and the need for stricter measures to protect fans and celebrities alike. The actors are working towards filing cybercrime complaints and raising awareness about the issue. Fans are advised to remain vigilant and block or report any suspicious accounts.
