Malayalam actor Dileep has been acquitted in the 2017 sexual assault case of a South Indian actress. The verdict, delivered by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions court on Monday, has sparked a mixed reaction from the Malayalam film industry. While some fans and family members celebrated Dileep's acquittal with sweets and crackers, others have expressed support for the survivor. In a heartwarming moment, Dileep was seen hugging his wife, Kavya Madhavan, and their daughter, Mahalakshmi, at their Aluva home. The family was joined by other relatives and friends who congratulated the actor on his acquittal. However, the Kerala government has decided to appeal against the verdict, citing that the court's decision was not what they had expected. Law Minister P Rajeev announced that the prosecution will initiate further proceedings in the case. The 2017 assault case involved Dileep allegedly orchestrating the attack on an actress who had informed his ex-wife, Manju Warrier, about his alleged affair with Kavya. Dileep and Manju were married from 1998 to 2015 and have a daughter, Meenakshi. He married Kavya in 2016 and they have a daughter, Mahalakshmi.
