More than 50 renowned musicians from around the world will gather at Mumbai's National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) on December 14-15 to pay a heartfelt tribute to tabla legend Zakir Hussain, marking his first death anniversary. The two-day celebration, 'Maestro Forever,' boasts an impressive lineup featuring John McLaughlin, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Louis Banks, Shankar Mahadevan, and many more. One of the notable performers is Aditya Kalyanpur, who first collaborated with Zakir Hussain at the age of eight in the iconic 'Wah Taj' advertisement. Kalyanpur reflects on the tribute, stating, 'It's surreal to think this is a death anniversary for our guru.' However, he emphasizes that Zakir Hussain believed in celebrating life through music, and it's an honor to pay tribute to him. For Kalyanpur, the gathering of such a diverse group of artists at the NCPA is a testament to Zakir Hussain's global influence. He praises the maestro, saying, 'He was a trailblazer who inspired musicians across genres, nationalities, and religions.' Kalyanpur's personal connection with Zakir Hussain went beyond mentorship, as he learned valuable life lessons such as humility, kindness, and the importance of spreading music worldwide. The tribute will also feature Zakir Hussain's family, including his wife Antonia, daughters Anisa and Isabella, and brothers, coming together to celebrate the maestro's life and legacy. As Aditya Kalyanpur puts it, 'Every note we play will be a prayer in his honor.'
