Actress and aviation enthusiast Gul Panag has expressed her concerns over the widespread flight cancellations by IndiGo, saying that the narrative has shifted from safety and pilot fatigue to chaos. In a series of tweets, Gul emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and pilot welfare, citing the implementation of updated fatigue and safety norms as a crucial measure to protect passengers and crew. Gul acknowledged the operational challenges faced by IndiGo during the transition period, but felt that these issues should not overshadow the intent behind the updated safety norms. She shared her views on social media, stating that the real issue is being pushed to the back burner amidst the chaos. The IndiGo crisis has left thousands of passengers stranded, with over 1,000 flights cancelled in a single day on Friday. The airline has attributed the crisis to unforeseen operational challenges, including minor tech glitches, winter schedule changes, and weather conditions. However, Gul pointed out that the airline had more than a year to address these issues and instead created a 'hostage situation' by blacklisting the government. The airline has offered a full waiver on cancellations and rescheduling requests for bookings between December 5-15, 2025. As the crisis continues, with over 300 flights cancelled on Sunday, Gul's concerns about the safety of passengers and crew remain a pressing issue. The airline's ability to navigate this transition and prioritize safety will be crucial in the coming weeks, with the fate of the updated fatigue and safety norms set to be decided in February.
