Tamil music legend Ilaiyaraaja has reached a settlement with film production house Mythri Movie Makers over the unauthorized use of his songs in their 2025 release, 'Dude.' The veteran composer had filed a suit alleging that the film used his chart-topping tracks 'Nooru Varusham' and 'Karutha Machan' without his consent. According to a recent Madras High Court order, Mythri Movie Makers has paid Ilaiyaraaja ₹50 lakh as part of the settlement. The case was filed to seek relief regarding copyright infringement, but the parties were able to come to an agreement. 'Dude,' a romantic comedy-drama directed by Keerthiswaran and starring Pradeep Ranganathan, was a commercial success, earning ₹100 crore at the box office. Ilaiyaraaja, a highly acclaimed composer with over 8,600 songs to his credit, has been a vocal advocate for artist rights, often speaking out against the unauthorized use of his compositions in films. The Madras High Court, led by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, recorded a joint memorandum of compromise, dated November 28, 2025, and closed the application, stating that there were no legal impediments to decreeing the suit in accordance with the settlement terms.
