Jon M Chu, a renowned filmmaker, has spoken about his journey in Hollywood, saying he didn't think he deserved to be there until his film 'Crazy Rich Asians' became a hit. The director made his debut in 2008 with 'Step Up 2: The Streets' but it was 'Crazy Rich Asians' in 2018 that grossed over USD 239 million at the global box office.
At a recent panel, Chu compared his success to winning the lottery, stating that he felt he got lucky and didn't deserve his place in Hollywood. He revealed that he had to learn to tell his story in a different way and that making 'Crazy Rich Asians' was a scary experience, but ultimately, it paid off.
Chu's latest directorial venture is 'Wicked: For Good', which was released in 2025 and features Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo among others.
