Meryl Streep isn't a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's formula, calling it 'boring' in a recent interview. The 76-year-old Oscar winner appeared to take a subtle swipe at the blockbuster genre, hinting that its dependence on neatly defined heroes and villains leaves little room for complexity.
Streep made the comments while promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2, in which she reprises her role as Miranda Priestly. The actor added that she prefers stories with 'flawed heroes' and 'human villains'.
This isn't the first time someone has criticized the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and actress Jennifer Aniston have also expressed their concerns about the genre's impact on Hollywood.
The Devil Wears Prada 2, directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of traditional print media and faces off against her former assistant.
