Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu, introduced low-cost sanitary pads to villages in India and was the inspiration behind the film PadMan. He said he couldn't believe the nomination at first, as it's not possible to submit one's own name or that of friends and family for the Nobel Prize.
