Actor Rajpal Yadav has been granted temporary relief by the Delhi High Court in a cheque bounce case. The court has declined to vacate its earlier order granting him interim bail and has extended the relief till April 1. Rajpal Yadav was granted interim bail earlier after he deposited ₹1.5 crore in the complainant's bank account.
The court observed that Rajpal Yadav was not running away from the case and had made substantial payments towards the default amount. The actor was sentenced to six months' simple imprisonment in 2018 after seven cheques issued to the complainant bounced.
However, the court noted that leniency cannot be extended endlessly for anyone, regardless of their celebrity status. Rajpal Yadav had taken a loan of ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata, in 2010.
