Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar has hit the theatres to positive reviews, but the film's inspiration has been a subject of controversy. In a recent interview, veteran actor Rakesh Bedi revealed that the film may have been inspired by the story of late Major Mohit Sharma. However, he clarified that it is not based on the decorated officer's life. The controversy began when Major Sharma's family filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to stop the film's release. The family alleged that the movie had drawn unauthorized inspiration from the officer's life without their consent or the Indian Army's approval. Although the court did not issue a stay order, the family expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. Rakesh Bedi, who plays a key role in the film, explained that most movies draw inspiration from real stories or archetypes. He cited examples of classic films like Sholay and Seven Samurai, saying that every film has a mother film. Bedi also revealed that his own character in Dhurandhar was loosely inspired by a real-life political figure from Pakistan. The Delhi High Court had instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to fast-track certification and consider the family's concerns carefully. The CBFC had evaluated the film as a work of fiction, but the family had expressed disappointment with the decision. Major Sharma's brother, Madhur, had expressed the family's desire for due diligence, saying that they want people to take a sympathetic and empathetic perspective. He also expressed the hope that the film's producers would acknowledge the inspiration they drew from his brother's story. Dhurandhar is a high-stakes espionage thriller directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by B62 Productions and Jio Studios. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi.
