Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg is singing the praises of indie horror hits Obsession and Backrooms, calling their box office success 'fantastic' for cinema.

During the press tour for his upcoming film Disclosure Day, Spielberg expressed his admiration for the films, particularly their ability to thrive on limited budgets.

While he has seen Obsession but not Backrooms, Spielberg commended the filmmakers for their achievements, saying, 'I think it's great that they had basically very little money, and they're doing so well, and I just applaud them.'

Obsession, directed by 26-year-old Curry Barker, has grossed close to $200 million worldwide, while Backrooms, directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons, has earned over $140 million worldwide.

The success of these low-budget independent films has sparked a conversation around the need for fresh voices in Hollywood.

Spielberg's Disclosure Day, set to release on June 12, revolves around individuals uncovering top-secret government intelligence on extraterrestrial life and racing against time to reveal the truth.
