Actor Taapsee Pannu has returned to social media after a nearly year-long detox. She says the decision was partly prompted by industry realities, including being told that some brands prefer celebrities who are more active and visible online.
Pannu, who recently asked followers what kind of content they would like to see from her, says she went slow on social media last year to focus on living real life. She deleted social media apps from her phone and accessed them only through her iPad, using it once in three days or less.
The actor says maintaining social media is hard work and it was taking away from her time living life and experiences that help her become a better actor. She was told brands want people who are visible and that she should be like a particular person to get associated with them.
Pannu questions the logic, saying if a brand is coming to her, they are coming for her as a person. She does not want to chase engagement at the cost of authenticity and believes that authenticity should not be sacrificed for algorithms.
The actor is currently spending three months in Denmark with her husband and family and is enjoying the contrast to her Mumbai life. She reveals that she has always handled her social media accounts without professional help and is unsure what followers expected from her online presence.
Pannu says her social media account is raw, unfiltered, and not tampered with, just like how she is. She is still trying to wrap her head around the idea of getting used to posting again and is aware of the mental strength required to keep calm while scrolling through social media.
