Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was handed a three-month prison sentence for violating the terms of his supervised release in a high-profile New York gang case. The 29-year-old Brooklyn artist pleaded guilty to violating his release conditions by assaulting a man and possessing small amounts of cocaine and ecstasy. In a federal court hearing in Manhattan, Judge Paul Engelmayer expressed frustration with Hernandez's repeated run-ins with the law, stating that another prison sentence was necessary to drive home the point that 'ordinary rules don't apply to' him. This latest sentence comes on the heels of a 45-day prison term he received in late 2022 for similar infractions. Hernandez rose to fame with the 2017 release of his song 'Gummo' and later cooperated with authorities in the racketeering case against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, a violent New York-based gang. He was initially sentenced to two years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Hernandez was released early from federal prison in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During Friday's hearing, Hernandez addressed the court, recounting instances where he and his family faced harassment and threats due to his cooperation with authorities. His lawyer had requested six months of home confinement for the violations, but the judge opted for a more severe punishment.
