A horse named Deniz collapsed and died in Central Park on Tuesday, prompting renewed calls for a ban on horse carriages in New York City.
The union representing carriage horse drivers said the death was a sudden medical emergency, with no signs of illness beforehand.
A necropsy will be conducted by Cornell University to determine the cause of death.
The incident has sparked a push for Ryder's Law, which would ban horse carriages in the city, with the Central Park Conservancy and animal welfare group NYCLASS supporting the ban.
