Washington, US Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon shared her remarkable journey from being the child of immigrants to becoming a leading lawyer, calling it an American success story.

Speaking at the Moms for Liberty event in New York, Dhillon described coming to the US as the 'greatest gift' her parents gave to her.

Her parents, who were an orthopaedic surgeon and his wife, left India in the 1970s due to the country's two-child policy and planned economy.

Dhillon, who rose to fame as a civil rights attorney and US President Donald Trump's lawyer, said her parents brought her to the US when there was a shortage of doctors, and she was sworn in as a naturalised American citizen at the age of 10.

She recalled that her parents flew to JFK instead of coming through Ellis Island, which processed over 12 million immigrants from 1892 to 1954.

Dhillon's father, who passed away 15 months ago, was proud of her accomplishments, including becoming the lawyer for the former and future president of the United States.

She spoke about her Senate confirmation hearing, where her mom and brother got to see her defend against 'dumb and obnoxious questions' from Democrat senators.

Dhillon expressed her gratitude for being able to stand up for American citizens against state tyranny, including young girls who were denied their womanhood and parents who were denied control over their children's education.

She concluded by saying that her story is an American success story and that she is proud to be an American.
