A federal judge has indefinitely blocked the Trump administration's $1.8 billion settlement fund for compensating people who claim to be victims of a weaponized government.
The fund, which was created to resolve a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over the leak of President Donald Trump's tax returns, has been at the center of a fierce bipartisan backlash.
US District Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled that the 'Anti-Weaponization Fund' will remain blocked until further notice from the court, despite government attorneys arguing that lawsuits challenging the fund are now moot.
Plaintiffs' attorneys, however, are not satisfied by assurances from acting Attorney General Todd Blanche that the fund won't move forward.
The judge gave the parties a week to negotiate an agreement for Trump administration officials to submit a sworn declaration that the administration won't revive the fund.
