Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has resigned, nearly four months after the FBI raided his home and office as part of a fraud and corruption probe. Carvalho, who held the role for just over four years, tendered his resignation on June 21, citing a desire not to become a distraction to students.

Carvalho, 61, did not make any direct reference to the ongoing FBI investigation in his resignation letter, but sources said the probe is linked to a corruption scandal from a botched AI education company. He had been on paid leave since February 27, when LA Board of Education members voted 7-0 to put him on leave.

The FBI raids in February resulted in the seizure of cellphones, computers, and paper documents from Carvalho's $2.5 million San Pedro home, his office at LAUSD headquarters, and another location in Miami. Carvalho has not been charged with any crime and the LAUSD said it was cooperating with investigators.
