California voters are heading to the polls in a closely watched primary election that will decide the state's next governor and shape key races ahead of November. Among the candidates is Ramsey Robinson, a social worker, activist, and educator running for the Peace and Freedom Party of California.
Robinson, who holds a master's degree in social work from UCLA, has been involved in various activism efforts, including the national "Shut 'Em Down" campaign for justice for victims of police brutality and freedom for political prisoners. He also worked with the Marie Harrison Foundation and Green Action to fight for environmental justice in San Francisco.
As a member of the Party of Socialism and Liberation and the Peace and Freedom Party of California, Robinson describes his campaign as being for the working people of California, not the billionaire class. He is currently polling at 4% in the combined "other" category.
Robinson's platform includes:
- Civil Rights and Immigration: He wants California to be a full sanctuary state with zero cooperation with ICE and universal access to housing, healthcare, and education regardless of immigration status.
- Healthcare: He is pushing for completely free universal healthcare with no fees, premiums, or deductibles.
- Economy, wages, and housing: He is calling for a $30 minimum wage, union rights for all workers, and protections against AI taking jobs.
- Homelessness and reparations: He supports direct cash reparations for Black Californians and says no one should go hungry in a state with a trillion-dollar economy.
Robinson has received endorsements from various groups, including the Peace and Freedom Party, Vote Socialist California, and Fixing a Mess We Didn't Make: Gen Z. He has reported earnings of $73,522 in 2025 and had received $90,666 in campaign contributions as of May 29, 2026.
