Former US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg revealed that his family was targeted by a fabricated report to Child Protective Services (CPS), which alleged he had committed violent crimes against his children.
An anonymous caller made the false report, claiming Buttigieg had confessed to the crimes at a conference in Alabama. However, Buttigieg denied ever attending the conference and described the call as a form of 'swatting.'
CPS and Michigan State Police investigated and found the report to be false, but not before the family's four-year-old twins were questioned and instructed to stay at their grandparents' home.
The incident occurred on Father's Day, just after Buttigieg shared photos of his family online. He called the incident a 'politically motivated hoax' and praised the authorities for responding to the call, despite wasting their time and resources.
The investigation lasted for 24 hours, during which time Buttigieg and his husband Chasten were left anxious and worried about their children's well-being.
