Pope Leo XIV spoke about depression and domestic violence after hearing personal testimonies from young people at a prayer vigil in Barcelona.

He emphasized the need for public health systems to tackle the 'invisible and widespread malaise' in mental health and criticized societies that prioritize progress over people's well-being.

The pope also addressed the issue of femicide, saying that a 'toxic climate in family relationships marked by abuse and oppression' often leads to violence against women.

During his visit to Spain, the pope has held an open-air mass with 1.5 million people in Madrid, given an address to the Spanish parliament, and will bless the Sagrada Familia Basilica and hold a mass in the church.
