New reports have emerged that the Guthrie family received a ransom note indicating 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie had died. The note, which came sometime back, has sparked a public message from TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie.
When the family received the second ransom note after Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, there was speculation that the note indicated Nancy may have passed away.
The ransom letter contained phrases like 'She perished shortly after she was taken', 'She is buried in nature now...', and 'We are truly sorry'.
Nancy Guthrie had been reported missing on February 1, and authorities believe she was taken from her Catalina Foothills home near Tucson, Arizona, the night before.
Savannah Guthrie released a video on February 7, alongside her brother Camron and sister Annie, making an appeal to the kidnappers in the video.
Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer shared Savannah's response from a few months back, saying 'Savannah said she was told by God that Nancy was with him.'
In the video, Savannah could be heard saying 'we received your message and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate...'. The case remains a kidnapping matter, with authorities treating it as such.
