A massive fire engulfed a warehouse near Northwest 42nd Street in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood on Thursday, prompting a defensive strategy by firefighters and evacuation of the area.
Smoke from the blaze could be seen from as far as Whidbey Island, 37 miles away, and a strong smell of smoke was reported in a large part of the city.
The Seattle Fire Department had crews on site, but opted for a defensive strategy, putting water on the fire from a safe distance.
No injuries have been reported, but the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Residents nearby were advised to stay indoors with doors and windows closed, while people were asked to avoid the area.
