US President Donald Trump has doubled down on his claim that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asked for a photograph with him during the G7 summit, despite Meloni denying the account as 'completely made up.'

Trump made the remarks in a Truth Social post, further escalating a public dispute that has strained relations between the two leaders.

He claimed Meloni had asked 'over and over' for a picture with him during the G7 summit in France, and also criticized her handling of Italy's relationship with Washington, including her refusal of US requests related to military operations involving Iran.

Meloni called Trump's account 'completely made up' and Italian officials have condemned Trump's remarks, with the Italian Foreign Minister canceling a planned visit to the United States.
