President Donald Trump has called for military action in Chicago following a series of shootings that left at least seven people dead and many more injured.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote that he could make Chicago a safe city within a month, citing the transformation of Washington D.C. from one of the worst to one of the safest cities in the U.S.

Chicago police reported at least two dozen shooting incidents since Friday, including a 21-year-old shot in the chest, an 18-year-old shot in the armpit, and a 50-year-old shot in the chest.

Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed his sorrow over the violence, stating that it has no place in the city and those responsible will face consequences.

According to data from the Chicago Police Department, there has been a slight uptick in shooting incidents in 2026 compared to the first half of the previous year, although overall violent crime rates have declined in recent years.
