US President Donald Trump announced that the US Navy will start guiding foreign ships to safety through the Strait of Hormuz from Monday, warning Iran that any interference would be dealt with forcefully.
The move, dubbed 'Project Freedom,' aims to help foreign ships locked in the Strait, which has been closed since February 28, as 'innocent bystanders' not involved in the West Asia developments.
Several ships are running low on food, water, and essential supplies, and the US President said his representatives are having positive discussions with Iran, which could lead to a positive outcome for all.
The Strait of Hormuz transports one-fifth of global oil supplies and has been closed since the US and Israel launched a war with Iran.
Trump emphasized that the ship movement is a humanitarian gesture to free up people, companies, and countries that have done nothing wrong, and the US will guide their ships safely out of restricted waterways.
However, if the humanitarian process is interfered with, the US will deal with it forcefully, Trump warned.
