Auburn University student James 'Weston' Higginbotham, 20, was last seen on CCTV footage walking alone in Kyoto's Yamashina area, sparking a massive search effort after his disappearance during a family vacation.

According to his parents, James had an argument with his mother over her use of ChatGPT to navigate their trip, leading him to leave on his own.

His parents used the Life360 app to track his location, which showed him getting on a train and visiting various stores before his location was turned off.

A search-and-rescue team, along with local residents and police, launched a massive search effort, involving over 100 officers, K-9s, and helicopters.

Unfortunately, James' body was found by a volunteer search-and-rescue group in a mountainous area outside of Kyoto, leaving his family and loved ones in unimaginable grief.
