At least 13 undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained in Gurugram during a special verification drive, police said. The individuals, working as daily wagers, were found without valid travel or residency documents.

Deputy police commissioner Hitesh Yadav said a crime branch team carried out searches based on intelligence inputs, identifying 13 people who failed to produce valid documents to establish their legal stay in India.

Documents of Bangladeshi citizenship were seized, establishing their nationality. One of the detainees claimed to have entered India illegally through the Kaliaganj border in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district with the help of transnational agents.

The deportation process will be initiated as per the law, and police urged residents and employers to verify the documents of tenants, domestic workers, and employees.

The special drive will continue, with police appealing to the public to share information about suspicious foreign nationals by contacting the emergency helpline 112 or the nearest police station.
