Gurugram police have cracked a high-stakes theft case, arresting a 40-year-old personal security officer (PSO) for allegedly stealing ₹50 lakh in cash from a wine shop in Sector 57. Jai Pratap Singh, a 10-year veteran of the Discovery Wine Group, was taken into custody by the crime branch team from Sector 56. According to the police, Singh was entrusted with ₹50 lakh in cash on December 10 to transport from Sector 57 to Delhi. However, he switched off his phone and fled with the money. Investigations revealed that Singh had planned to invest the stolen money in a fruit orchard in Himachal Pradesh. To evade detection, he parked his car at a Delhi municipal parking lot, hid the cash in the boot, and then traveled to Haridwar and Rishikesh, where he discarded his mobile phone. The police recovered ₹49.5 lakh in cash from the boot of his car. Singh attempted to return to his village but avoided going home for fear of arrest. He eventually returned to Gurugram, where the crime branch team apprehended him. The accused admitted to spending ₹50,000 on personal expenses and travel. The case is being investigated by assistant sub-inspector Devender Singh, and further inquiry is underway to determine whether Singh acted alone or had any accomplices. The accused will be produced before a local court on Wednesday.
