The 8th Central Pay Commission is gearing up to submit its recommendations on salary revisions, allowances, and pension structures for government employees.

As part of its consultation process, the CPC has urged central government employees to submit memorandums or suggestions on its website.

One of the key aspects being discussed is the fitment factor, a multiplier used to revise basic pay and pensions.

Employee unions have demanded a fitment factor of 3 to 5, but experts predict a more modest 2.64, citing budget constraints.

This would translate to an effective increase of 15 to 25 per cent in basic salaries for employees.

The 8th pay commission has 18 months to submit its report, with an extended deadline for submissions till June 15, 2026.
