Air India has stepped in to help passengers affected by IndiGo's ongoing flight disruptions, capping airfares and waiving change and cancellation fees for eligible bookings. The move comes as IndiGo struggles with over 2,000 flight cancellations in the past five days, prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to issue a show-cause notice to the airline's CEO. According to Air India, economy-class airfares on non-stop domestic flights have been capped since December 4, and both carriers are ensuring compliance with the latest airfare caps directive from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. To provide greater flexibility, Air India and Air India Express have introduced a one-time waiver on change and cancellation fees for passengers who booked flights between December 4 and December 15. Passengers can reschedule their bookings without paying the applicable rescheduling fee or cancel their bookings for a full refund, with no cancellation fee applied. The waiver is applicable until December 8, and passengers can reschedule or cancel their bookings through the airlines' 24x7 contact centres, travel agents, or Air India Express's chatbot, Tia. To minimize response times, Air India and Air India Express have deployed additional resources at their contact centres. The measures aim to help passengers reach their destinations despite the ongoing travel disruptions. Further updates on the situation will be provided as more information becomes available.
