The Union home ministry has officially approved a law that will solidify Amaravati's position as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh by June 2, 2024. This move grants the city a statutory status, providing a permanent and stable foundation for its future development. Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, confirmed the news, stating that Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the state government of providing necessary legal safeguards for the capital. The Centre is actively working on the legal framework to ensure Amaravati's status as the state capital is secure in the long term. The Union Minister also revealed plans to assign exclusive administrative identifiers, including a separate PIN code and STD code, to the city, further enhancing its institutional identity. Key institutions, allocated to Amaravati under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, will be encouraged to establish their offices in the capital region. The head office of the Postal Department, under Chandrasekhar's purview, is expected to begin operations within the next three months. Addressing concerns of farmers who contributed land for the capital's development, Chandrasekhar assured that their issues are being addressed one by one. Efforts are being made to restore the farmers' confidence and satisfaction. To boost population density in Amaravati, the government plans to attract private investments and discuss opportunities with select IT companies to set up operations in the city. The infrastructure development roadmap includes completing the ongoing construction of key government complexes within a two-year timeframe. Parallel efforts will be made to enhance rail and road connectivity to the capital, which is crucial for its long-term growth. The Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) layouts are also progressing rapidly, paving the way for private building construction permissions.
