The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a significant move ahead of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections, inducting 20 former corporators and several prominent leaders from various parties. The party also welcomed 12 leaders from its alliance partner, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar. The induction ceremony, held in Mumbai, was led by BJP MLAs Mahesh Landge and Shankar Jagtap. The move is seen as a major boost for the BJP, with the Model Code of Conduct already in place. Among the high-profile defections are former PCMC Standing Committee chairperson Usha Waghere, former Standing Committee chief Prashant Shitole, and former mayor Raju Misal. The party also gained support from leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress. Speaking on the occasion, BJP MLA Mahesh Landge said that the move reflects the growing trust of the people in the BJP's development-oriented politics. The party's Election In-Charge, Shankar Jagtap, expressed confidence that the momentum of Pimpri-Chinchwad's development will continue with the support of the new leaders. The PCMC elections are scheduled to take place on January 15, with counting set to take place on January 16. The elections are part of a larger set of municipal corporation polls across the state, with a total of 29 corporations going to the polls.
