The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command has summoned Karnataka unit chief Vijayendra Yediyurappa and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka to explain cross-voting in the state legislative council polls.

Cross-voting led to the Congress gaining a majority in the legislative council, sparking concerns within the BJP that the opposition is consolidating its position under new CM D K Sivakumar.

Party leaders fear intra-party differences and lack of strong leadership could weaken the party ahead of the 2028 assembly elections.

At least 11 BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) legislators cross-voted, helping the Congress win an additional fifth seat.

Vijayendra has vowed to take stern action against MLAs who defied the party line, but some state leaders argue he should not be made the fall guy for the party's organisational issues.
