Senior BJP leader Dr Rajneesh Singh has called for an impartial Central investigation into allegations of embezzlement of funds at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh urged that the matter be investigated by a competent Central agency and the findings be made public to strengthen devotees' faith in the temple trust.
The allegations of irregularities in the collection of donations at the temple have sparked controversy, with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav calling for judicial intervention and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust maintaining a distance from the media.
Trust members have said that internal audits are underway and no evidence supporting the allegations has emerged so far.
